So let's start with Calcium. Of course most are aware of the benefits of calcium on bones, but were you aware that calcium relys on it's friend phosphorous to maximise its bone strenthening benefits. This is especially important in children with developing bones and teeth. Vitamin D is the leader of the pack balancing the absorption of calcium and phosphorous in the body. So where can we find these vitamins and minerals? Milk is always an easy choice but not everyone enjoys milk, dairy, or animal products in general. Seafood, leafy greens, legumes, dried fruit, tofu and various other foods fortified with calcium are some alternate choices.
Beyond bone health let's take a look at the health of our gum tissue. Some patients experience the aggravation of inflamation. Is this being caused by what you're eating or is there an underlying issue? The inflamation in your gums could be caused by gingivitis or periodontal disease. Some common causes include poor oral hygiene, smoking, certain medications, and an array of medical conditions. If you're looking to calm the inflamation a good start is Vitamin C. Orange you glad I have some suggestions for this as well! While a tall glass of OJ is a sweet choice, the sugar content can be found to be on the higher side. Take a look at these sources of C for a less sugary alternative.
Does an apple a day really keep the doctor away? While it might help, there are still things that you can do to get your overall health in check. Establish yourself with a doctor to make sure there aren't any underlying illnesses that you may be missing. Eat a healthy diet high in nutritional value. My helpful tip, stay on the outer parts of the grocery store and avoid the processed isles. If it's not something you could find in a pasture, garden, tree or body of water, then it probably has some pretty unhealthy stuff added to it.
At the end of the day there are always supplements too. Just be careful to do your research and read reviews. Make sure that if you aren't getting your vitamins and minerals from food, at least your vitamins are what they say they are.
